The College of Human Sciences is among those at Iowa State University who have invested in the Merit Pages program to recognize its students for their many achievements. Students can receive recognition for academic honors, leadership roles, awards for research projects or competitions, student teaching, internships and many other achievements while enjoying their adventure at Iowa State University.
These achievements not only appear on the Iowa State University Merit Page, but also appear on the student's own Merit Page which can be claimed and enhanced by the student by adding additional campus activities and work experience. These pages are excellent references for the student during job or internship application processes. Merit Pages achievements are built with the intention that can be shared with family and friends through social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter or emailed to followers and hometown newspapers.
How it works
CHS departments, clubs and organizations provide Communications with information about the organization giving the honor, parameters of the award/achievement, the name(s) of student(s) who earned the accomplishment, and any other pertinent details. CHS Communications will create a news story about the students and their accomplishments and award a badge, which will then be published to Iowa State University's Merit Page and on the student's profile. Stories will then be sent to each student's hometown (United States only) newspaper for publication.
A branded badge carries a compelling, visual seal of approval that connects students' achievements with Iowa State University. These provide verification of those achievements with stories written by the College of Human Sciences on students' profiles for potential employers.
Why it's important
It is critical to have a positive online presence especially in regards to searching for future employment. More companies are searching for and researching potential hires online and making decisions based on their online findings before setting up interviews. Merit helps students highlight their successes in one place and allows them to expand their profile beyond their verified Collegiate achievements with a profile photo, short biography, work experience, and other campus activities.
